Guatemala Projects




Guatemala is a Central American country. It borders the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. It is located between Honduras, Mexico, El Salvador and Belize. If you wanted to compare the size of Guatemala to one of the states, it would be almost the same size as the state of Tennessee. May to October is called winter because it brings rain and clouds. November to April is called summer.

The people of Guatemala are as different as Americans. The people of Guatemala are mostly Indians or Mayans. The Indians make up a little more than 50% of the population. Meztizos make up about 40% of the population. The rest of the population is European. About 65% of the people in Guatemala are Roman Catholic. Now in Guatemala 30% are Protestant. Some Native Americans practice older, less common religions.

The government of Guatemala is and always has been played a major part by the military. There was a constitution proposed on May 31,1985 which made three branches of government. There is the executive, legislative, and judicial. Guatemala also has local governments. They are composed of municipal councils which are elected by the citizens and departmental chiefs which are elected by the president.

Guatemalans make many handy-crafts along with farming as a main industry. Some of the contemporary crafts are weaving, jewelry making and ceramics. Some of the art in Guatemala are thing like hand-woven textiles, clay, and woodcarvings. Guatemala's best product is coffee. Sugar is another popular product. Bananas were important but with so many other products being made it isn't as commonly grown. Other crops of importance are Fresh fruit, oil seeds, and vegetables. Crops important only for food and clothing inside Guatemala are cotton, corn, rice, beans, potatoes, and some fruit and vegetables.
