Guatemala

Seventh Grade students have four formal Spanish classes per week. The students develop vocabulary, conjugate verbs, have formal and informal dialogue, are required to write sentences to paragraphs, and maintain a notebook.

In addition you will hear Spanish phrases such as ¡Hola!, Eschuchan, and Bueños Diás used in other subject classes. Homework is assigned in Spanish as well as English. All homework, however, will be written on the board in English only.

As a culmination of Seventh Grade's focus on Guatemala, students had the following assignment to prepare and share. The following is the criteria that was used to prepare the student reports.

Due May 27

You will work on one of the following areas:
Geography and Climate
History
Culture of the people (music, art, holidays, and religion)
Agriculture and industry
Mayan Civilization
Tourist Attractions
People of Guatemala and Government

Your report should contain facts found in the library, in books, on the internet or in magazine articles.

You are to organize your collection of facts with an outline that will be handed in with the report. You are to record the information on your sources in the MLA style that Mrs. Gaskill has shown you. Please remember each paragraph should have a topic sentence. There should be several sentences to support your topic sentence, and then a sentence to summarize the thoughts in the sentence. The report should be around 200-300 words. You do not need to use spelling words in this composition. Neatness counts.
