Bolivia |
The first graders have been studying the country of Bolivia and the following information is displayed in their hallway:
Many years ago American Indians lived in the area now called Bolivia. They built gigantic monuments and statues of stone. Throughout history, there were many different tribes who controlled Bolivia. In 1530, the Spanish explorers came to Bolivia. At that time, the Spanish people did not always treat the Indians of Bolivia with kindness.
Today, most of the people live in the Andean highlands. Their ancestors are both Native American and Spanish. In the cities, most people celebrate Spanish traditions and holidays. People who live in the countryside follow the traditions of their Native American ancestors.
They raise cattle for beef and lamas for wool. Mining is also an important job in Bolivia. Bolivia is
one of the world’s leading producers of tin. They also sell gold, silver, and gas to other countries throughout the world.
Life has been difficult for the people of Bolivia but many new laws have helped to make it a stronger country.
The first graders would like YOU to come to their hall to learn more about the country of Bolivia. We hope to see you there!
